HMRC admits fresh errors

HMRC has recently admitted that continuous errors in the PAYE system has resulted in almost 5 million people being affected. In the next two weeks HMRC will start sending revised calculations of tax due for 2010-11. Some taxpayers will receive cheques after revenue calculations revealed that they have overpaid tax, whilst others will be hit by demands for underpaid tax.

It is believed that up to 3.5 million people could be in line for a refund whilst 1.5 million taxpayers will be sent demands for the underpaid tax. HMRC have said that it will begin sending out letters and cheques in early July whilst demands will be sent out in the Autumn for the underpaid amounts.
