Mark helps businesses plan for hard times

Accountants BPU have reached an important milestone in their expansion plans with the appointment of their new Head of Taxation Mark Aherne.

Mark qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor with leading international accountancy firm Deloitte, before moving to a regional firm to focus on owner managed businesses. He then joined a national practice where he was promoted to senior manager.

Mark will lead BPU’s expanded tax team, and his approach will be to emphasise tax planning opportunities for Welsh owner managed businesses, as well as individuals.

“Businesses and individuals always need to look ahead and plan for the future, but in these difficult times this is more important than ever,” he said.

“The UK’s taxation regime gets ever more arcane, and businesses in particular need to ensure that the taxman does not take more than his fair share of the fruits of their labours. There are many ways companies can prepare by ensuring their businesses are structured in the correct way.”

While Mark, from Cardiff, has worked on a wide variety of taxation topics, he says he has joined BPU for two reasons. “It is a firm which is developing and increasing the range of skills its can offer clients, and from my point of view it is an opportunity to focus on the OMB sector.

“In my work with business clients, I will be looking at finding the most efficient ways of extracting profit, company structuring and exit routes for owners, as well as other business issues.”
