BPU Nick Toye IS South Wales Accountants New President

Mechanical Engineering graduate Nick Toye, a director of Cardiff-based accountancy firm BPU Ltd, is the new president of the South Wales Society of Chartered Accountants.

Nick trained with the former Coopers & Lybrand and its successor PwC, moving into industry with Associated British Ports in South Wales for six years before returning to private practice.

Educated at Westbourne House in Penarth and Malvern College, Nick obtained a masters degree in mechanical engineering from Southampton University.

“After finishing university I felt it was important to learn about the financial side of business and the ACA qualification was the best financial qualification that could be obtained.”

After leaving ABP, Nick worked for one of the UK’s national accountancy firms before joining BPU as a director in August 2007.

“My role at ABP gave me as a chartered accountant an important insight into the workings of industry before I returned to private practice.”

During his year in office, Nick said that he would aim to engage younger members in the work of the South Wales society by highlighting the benefits of being involved.

“On the wider front, the economic climate is difficult for SMEs in terms of access to finance. As chartered accountants, I believe we can help address this issue and I’ll be aiming to play my part in helping that happen,” added Nick, who has been chairman of the Cardiff and District Society of Chartered Accountants.

Nick, who was born and lives in Cardiff, is married with two children. His interests outside work include golf.
