Practice Manager

Contract: Permanent

Location: BPU Accountants, Cardiff Gate Business Park

Package: Competitive salary and benefits package

BPU Accountants is a friendly, modern and approachable firm of Chartered Accountants based in offices at Cardiff Gate Business Park, Cardiff and at Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan. The firm currently employs over 40 staff and is planning further growth and development. We offer a full range of accountancy, tax and business advisory services, and we are currently looking for a Practice Manager to join our team in our Cardiff office. In return, you will be offered a competitive salary and benefits package depending on your level of experience. You would be working within a supportive team, where there are many opportunities for professional growth and development.

We are keen to speak to experienced administration professionals with experience of a similar role within an accountancy practice or other professional services firm. This could be the role for you if you have:

  • A professional qualification in business management, business administration or related fields (desirable but not essential)
  • Proven management experience in the accountancy or other professional services sectors
  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work under pressure
  • Proficiency in MS Office software applications and (ideally) experience of IRIS Accountancy Suite practice software

Key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Responsibility for the operational management of the practice
  • Responsibility for the HR function, with a focus on up to date staffing and personnel information, and the execution of the firm’s staff development strategy
  • To provide an overview for Health and Safety within the firm
  • Dealing with the firm’s IT suppliers, insurers and other key suppliers
  • Facilities management for the firm
  • Management of the firm’s client bank account and associated compliance
  • Management of the firm’s bank account including making payments to suppliers and staff
  • Management of the firm’s regulatory compliance systems
  • Financial management including supervision of monthly billing and credit control
  • Management of the firm’s monthly billing and reporting closedown procedures within IRIS (full training will be provided if necessary)
  • Management of the firm’s IRIS database
  • Management of the firm’s internal and outsourced staff training programmes
  • Line management of the firm’s administrative staff team
  • Assisting the firm’s Directors on ad hoc projects designed to improve the firm’s internal practices and client service delivery
  • Supporting the firm’s recruitment and selection processes
  • Maintaining the processes needed to ensure the firm’s compliance with GDPR and Data Protection

This is a full time, permanent, office based role, but we would be willing to consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of four days per week. Salary is negotiable up to £40,000 per annum depending upon experience, and the firm also offers private health insurance and up to 25 days per annum annual leave.

Administrative Assistant

Contract: Permanent

The firm currently employs over 40 staff and is planning further growth and development. We offer a full range of accountancy, tax and business advisory services, and we are currently looking for an Administrative assistant to join our team in our Cardiff office. In return, you will be offered a competitive salary and benefits package depending on your level of experience. You would be working within a supportive team, where there is the opportunity for professional growth and development.

We are keen to speak to experienced administration professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds, but will also consider applicants without relevant work experience as full training in the role will be given. This could be the role for you if you have:

  • A good telephone manner, and are friendly and willing to help and learn
  • Keyboard skills and confidence in using computers and technology
  • The ability to deal with clients of the firm in a professional manner
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to multi task
  • The ability to work as an effective team member
  • A good understanding of the importance of confidentiality

Key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Answering calls, emails and greeting clients in person`
  • Dealing with post, photocopying and scanning
  • Inputting into Word, Excel, and other MS Office based software
  • Inputting into firm’s IRIS software systems (full training will be provided)
  • Maintaining filing systems
  • Assisting your team colleagues as needed
  • Undertaking all tasks in a professional manner to deliver outstanding client service

This is a full time, permanent, office based role, working 37.5 hours per week.

Accountant

Responsibilities

Preparing management accounts

  • Month end and year end processing
  • Journals – both preparing and processing
  • Preparation of month end reports
  • Preparation of summary (quarterly) management accounts and commentary

Preparing year end accounts

  • Preparing accounts to trial balance including all reconciliations
  • Preparation and review of statutory accounts
  • Preparation of corporation tax computation and returns
  • Preparation of self-assessment income tax returns

The Person

  • Qualified or part Qualified AAT/ACCA/ACA or qualified by experience
  • Must have substantial accounting experience commensurate with the role, and good IT skills including Sage Accounts 50 and Microsoft Office software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Experience of working in teams and training junior staff members
  • Experience of dealing with clients
  • Driving licence

The following would also be desirable:

  • Knowledge of Xero
  • Use of IRIS Accounts Production within a practice environment

Senior/Semi-Senior Accountant

The Firm

We offer a full range of accountancy, tax and business advisory services, and we are currently looking for an Accountant to join our team. In return, you will be offered a competitive salary and benefits package depending on your level of experience. You would be working within a supportive team, where there is the opportunity for professional growth and development.

The Person

We are keen to speak to accounting professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds as long as you have a minimum of 2 years of practice experience in a professional accountancy practice.

This could be the role for you if you are:

  • AAT qualified and studying towards further professional accounting qualifications
  • Part ACCA or ACA qualified
  • Qualified by experience

You should be an excellent communicator with a flair for dealing with various types and quality of accounting records. You will need to be team orientated and prepared to help develop more junior staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Preparation of accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
  • Preparation of draft corporation tax computations for review by the firm’s tax department staff.
  • Be part of a team completing external audits, with the opportunity to lead audits (depending on experience).
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Report directly to a Manager.
  • Working and liaising with other members in the team and colleagues in other departments as necessary to provide high-quality client service.
  • Ability to multi-task and complete assignments within time constraints and set deadlines.
  • Ability to appropriately train more junior members of staff.

This is a full time, permanent role, working 37.5 hours per week.

Payroll Administrator

The Position

This is a new role for an ambitious, intelligent and personable individual with at least three years’ experience of running payrolls, ideally within an accountancy practice environment.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Processing of weekly and monthly payrolls using Sage payroll software
  • Keeping up to date with payroll and pensions legislation
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work without direct supervision, although you will be part of an established payroll team, so support and mentoring is available whenever required
  • Liaising with clients for relevant information
  • Producing payslips and reports for company payrolls
  • Calculation of employees’ holiday entitlement
  • Submissions to HMRC
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Daily contact with HMRC and dealing with technical queries
  • Pension scheme uploads
  • Annual Year-end process and submissions
  • Experience of CIS desirable but not essential
